ABOUT ME

Martine van der Loo (1963) studied flute with Abbie de Quant and piano with Thom Bollen at the Utrecht Conservatory, where she was awarded her soloist diploma for flute with distinction.

Martine began her professional career while still a student as principal flutist with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. She was solo flute at the Radio Symphony Orchestra for nine years, and since 1995 has performed as solo flutist with the Residentie Orchestra in The Hague. She also plays regularly as a soloist with the Residentie orchestra.

CD recordings are made with compositions of Olivier Messiaen and Leo Smit. Besides playing in the orchestra, Martine was a member of different chamber music combinations, in which the Xenakis ensemble. She plays as a duo with pianist Mariken Zandvliet.

In addition, Martine van der Loo is a health psychologist and cognitive behavioural therapist. She specializes in mental coaching of professional musicians, conservatory students and advanced amateurs. Her goal is to help musicians to achieve peak performance. As a psychologist in this particular field, Martine has the advantage of being a performing musician herself.
 Since 2008 she has her own ‘Praktijk voor Musici’ in The Hague.

She is co-author of the book ‘Podiumangst’ (Citroen & van der Loo, 2011) Martine and Liesbeth are giving workshops about stagefright at different conservatories and with several orchestras.

As a psychologist she teaches audition training / mental training at the conservatory in The Hague. Together with Liesbeth Citroen and Lex Duvekot she teaches mental training at the School voor Jong Talent. Together with Lex she coaches the students of the NJO.
